Call for Dances/Adjudication

The 2010 National High School Dance Festival will present six adjudicated concerts. All accepted works will be placed on one of the six programs by the Adjudication Committee.

• Friday Student Choreography Showcase Concert (5:00 PM)
• Friday Gala Concert (8:00 PM)
• Friday and Saturday Informal concerts (11:45 AM) - low tech
• Saturday Showcase Concert (5:00 PM)
• Saturday Gala Concert (8:00 PM)

Duration of programs:

• Afternoon concerts will be approximately one hour total running time with no intermission.
  
• Evening concerts will be approximately two hours of running time plus an intermission.
  
• Mid-day informal concerts will be approximately 45 minutes running time.

At past festivals, about one-third of all pieces submitted have been accepted.

Showcase and Gala concerts will be held in the 1800-seat Gusman Theater located in downtown Miami.
Informal Concerts will be held at the New World Dance Theater.

Please read all the rules and guidelines very carefully.



• Outstanding Student Choreography Award

All student choreographed works (no solos) that appear in the Friday Showcase Concert will be eligible for this award. During the Technical Rehearsal for this Concert, a special Outstanding Student Choreography Award Committee will view each of the works.




The student choreographer(s) will be interviewed by members of the Committee immediately following their tech. Committee will make decisions on the Award after the running of the Concert. Announcement of the winner(s) will be made at the conclusion of the Friday Gala Concert.


There are three levels of awards:
• Outstanding Student Choreography (Certificate and Honorarium)
• Meritorious Student Choreography (Certificate and Honorarium)
• Honorable Mention Student Choreography (Certificate)


• Concert Program Information Form

Please download one form for each work submitted and enclose with your videotape. Please make sure that the number of each dance (#1, #2 or #3) corresponds with the order of the dances on the videotape/DVD.



• Adjudication fees

Enclose a check or money order for the Adjudication fee(s) with the submitted videotapes/DVDs due to arrive no later than December 8, 2009. All checks or money orders must be made payable to National High School Dance Festival.



• Adjudicator's Evaluation Form

This is the form that each adjudicator uses when viewing each dance work. We hope that providing you with this form will assist you in understanding the elements on which the works are judged.




Absolutely no one will receive written feedback nor have access to the judges' adjudication forms. After the adjudication results are announced, verbal feedback from the Chair of the Adjudication Committee will be available upon request.
