Location: Elaine Levitt Auditorium at the Gershman Y, Broad & Pine Streets, Philadelphia
Dear High School Teacher and Students:
Herein, please find information regarding the Scholarship Auditions for the 9
th NHSDF for Thursday, March 13, 2008.
- Five separate Preliminary Audition classes will take place from 7:50 am – 12:40 pm.
At the completion of each morning class, the numbers of successful students will be posted outside the room. These are the numbers of those students who will report for the By-Invitation-Only call-back classes in the afternoon.
- Classes will consist of ballet and modern techniques. A Ballet and a Modern combination will be taught in the morning mandatory Warm-Up class. These will be performed in the Preliminary Auditions.
Prior to the festival
- Students will be placed in one of the five preliminary audition classes as soon as their materials are received (Send to Dr. Kearns at Penn State Abington – See below).
- Students from the same school will be scheduled in the same class.
- A maximum of ten (10) students per school may audition.
- Students who are not at an advanced technical level may not audition. Please see Audition Components.
- College Scholarships are open only to students currently in the 12th grade. All other scholarships are open to students in 10th, 11th and 12th grades.
If you are planning to send students to these auditions, please make appropriate travel plans to ensure arrival in time for your scheduled audition time.
The supervising teacher will be informed of the audition time.
Please do not request specific audition times. If you have not heard from the Scholarship Committee regarding audition time by
February 22, please contact Dr. Kearns.
Please note:
- 12th grade students must have already applied to the colleges who are offering scholarships prior to the Festival audition.
- They must contact the Dance Divisions of those colleges and notify them of their participation in the NHSDF auditions prior to the Festival.
- Students should call the schools/colleges directly for additional information.
- Students may only audition for those scholarships they can accept based on dates, travel, and financial obligations.
- Some students will receive acceptance into a program that may or may not be accompanied by a scholarship.
- At this year’s Festival, we will be having Preliminary Auditions in the morning and By-Invitation-Only Auditions in the afternoon. At the completion of each morning class, a list of eligible student numbers will be posted outside the room. Only these students will report to the afternoon session.
- A mandatory warm up class will begin 45 minutes prior to each audition class. Each audition class is 50 minutes in length. Appropriate audition attire is required.
- If necessary, recruiters can schedule conferences with students by leaving notices on the Audition board in Levitt, or by contacting the head teacher. A packet of Head Teacher contact information will be given to recruiters.
- Scholarships will be awarded based on the stated criteria from each institution. The recipient will be selected by either a representative from the institution awarding the scholarship or by the Festival’s Scholarship Selection Committee.
- ABSOLUTELY NO ON-SITE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Please review all pertinent forms before completing your registration forms:
- Audition Components
- Scholarship Audition Class Schedule
- Recruitment Policy
- Student Scholarship Registration Form
- Students are asked to select their first five choices for Summer and/or College/University scholarships; however, this does not mean that they will be excluded from being offered other scholarships.
- Teacher Accompanying Form
- List of Scholarships
Teachers, carefully review the list of scholarships with your students and have each auditioning student complete the Student Scholarship Registration Form.
The form must have a parent/guardian signature. If a signature is missing, that student will be ineligible to audition.
